About

The world moves so fast now. There's so much to look at, so much going on, and I love a lot of it. But I think we forget to really look at the small stuff. A rock in a river isn't just a gray lump, it got smooth over a long, long time. The teapot on your grandma's shelf, somebody made that, somebody painted it, and the little cracks are just from it being used and loved. I paint ordinary places and things because I don't want to miss all that, and I'm hoping you don't either.

Hi, I'm Suzanne. Watercolor is what I keep coming home to, though I'll try just about any medium if it'll let me chase a feeling. Oil pastel, ink, whatever the place seems to want. What ties it all together isn't a subject, it's the feeling a place leaves behind. A city street, a stand of trees, a shelf so crowded nothing on it matches.

I haven't always been a painter. I grew up dancing and doing musical theater, went to school to be a respiratory therapist, and spent years at a children's hospital. In 2019 I went all in on a different dream and opened a bakery with my two best friends. We had some wild moments, shipped cookies across the country and overseas, and it was a wonderful, hard run that came to an end in 2022.

Picking up a paintbrush a few years later was really me trying to find my way back to being a creative again. My mom came to watercolor as an adult too, and getting to watch her grow into it told me I could do the same. So that's what this is. Not one medium, not one subject, just me figuring out who I am again, one place at a time.

A few of these paintings come from my own trips, like France, Colorado, and Mexico. Some come from places you tell me about.
